1.    Education:     High School Diploma or equivalency required.  Graduate of an operating room technician, surgical technician or surgical technologist program in a Certified School of Operating Room Technology required. Certification as an OR Technician required.  Completion of anatomy and physiology course required.     2.    Training and Experience:     One year experience surgical assisting in the operating room preferred.  CPR certification preferred. 3.    Job Knowledge: Presents a professional appearance and exemplifies hospital standards of honesty and ethical behavior.   4.    Safety Sensitive:   YES In the interest of protecting the health and safety of all patients, associates, and guests, Unity Health has classified some positions as “safety sensitive.”  A “safety sensitive” position is any job position in which impaired performance could result in harm to the health and/or safety of self or others. DESCRIPTION: The operating room OR Tech must have a thorough knowledge of sterilization and disinfection. Surgery requires constant focused attention on the operative site.   While there may be periods of relaxed activity, the surgical technologist is in motion during most of the procedure, either preparing equipment for delivery or passing instruments in the correct spatial position.   At the same time, he/she must be anticipating the next step of the procedure.  This requires moderate to intense levels of concentration during the procedure. He/She must be able to stand for long hours and lift 15-30 lbs.  This tech will be able to accurately hand instruments to the physicians during procedures, and will assist the physician in performance of the procedure.  Other responsibilities include:  anticipation of the time constraints, to be prepared for procedures when needed and in a timely manner.  Also, expected to assist in cleaning duties.  He/She will also need to prepare cases for the following day, by utilizing physician preference cards.  This OR Tech will also assist the CPD technician in the central processing department as needed.  Will assist the circulating nurse as needed in transportation of the patient and/or preparation of the patient or operating room.  Participates in the OR call schedule, as needed.  Ability to work irregular hours. Physical Effort:  Standing for long periods of time, lifting 30 lbs., bending and moving of heavy equipment.
Responsibilities
The Operating Room Tech must maintain thorough knowledge of sterilization and disinfection while providing constant focused attention to the operative site, preparing equipment and accurately passing instruments to physicians. Responsibilities also include assisting in cleaning duties, preparing cases using physician preference cards, assisting the CPD technician, and supporting the circulating nurse with patient transportation and preparation.
