POSITION SUMMARY: An integral member of the surgical team who provides support for surgeons throughout the operation by preparing, providing and caring for instruments and equipment and maintaining a sterile field. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.  Graduation from a school of Surgical Technology preferred.   CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: BLS certification required prior to end of probationary period.   SKILLS: Knowledge of care and handling of instruments and equipment. Knowledge of sterilization and cleansing procedures.  Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally in English.   EXPERIENCE: One year experience in an acute care hospital setting in the operating room or an instrument care environment preferred.   NATURE OF SUPERVISION: -Responsible to: Manager, Surgical Services   ENVIRONMENT: - Bloodborne pathogens - C Employee will be instructed in Universal Precautions and Right to Know. Employee will be expected to utilize all protective equipment available whenever there is a potential for exposure to infectious materials or hazardous chemicals. Cleaning, repair and replacement of this protective equipment will be furnished by the hospital. Utilizes available tools to prevent worker injuries.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy physical effort requiring standing, walking or lifting most of the day. Requires ability to speak, hear and communicate verbal and written materials.
