UPMC Carlisle – Casual Surgical Tech First Assist Join our dynamic OR team at UPMC Carlisle! We’re seeking a casual Surgical Tech First Assist to work 7 am–3:30 pm with weekend call coverage (1 weekend every 8 weeks). In this fast-paced, one-patient-at-a-time environment, you’ll use your OR experience to anticipate the needs of the surgical team, assist in procedures, and contribute to patient safety and quality care. Duties include patient assessment, documentation, scrubbing and circulating, wound closure, instrument handling, and perioperative first assisting. Prior OR experience preferred. *Applicants will be assigned the appropriate job title and salary within the career ladder, based on their individual experience and education. Responsibilities: Deliver competent, ethical care within legal standards for STFA practice. Maintain regulatory, credentialing, and privileging compliance. Take ownership of personal development and continuing education. Follow all organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Apply evidence-based practices to ensure quality and patient safety daily. Identify and prevent unsafe or inefficient processes; avoid shortcuts. Promote patient and family involvement in safety processes. Collaborate with colleagues to uphold high-quality, safe care, report incidents per policy. Assist surgeons in the OR, including patient positioning, prepping, draping, and providing hemostasis. Manage sutures and surgical instruments effectively; anticipate surgeon needs. Apply knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative techniques; recognize physician preferences. Act as a patient advocate while maintaining confidentiality and privacy. Serve as an educator, mentor, and resource for colleagues in STFA and robotic surgery. Associates Degree in Surgical Tech preferred. 1 year of experience required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CST Certification Required. Completion of STFA program and certification within 2 years required. (Exempt from this requirement is the current STFA which possesses ten years Operating Room experience with five years First Assist experience assisting a surgeon and competencies are checked off by surgeon every two years) Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
