Learn About a Day In the Life of a Surgical Tech: Responsibilities The Surgical Tech Student handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure under the direction of the Surgical Technician Preceptor. He/she understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Qualifications Job Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technology program. BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
