Description
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to gathering needed supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures according to the surgeon preference card. Maintains the sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgical team. Is constantly vigilant to the adherence of aseptic technique by all team members. Differentiates between sterile and unsterile items processed by various sterilization methods. Demonstrates a basic level of surgical case preparation by reviewing the surgeon preference card and case cart, gathering surgical instruments, supplies and equipment needed for general surgical procedures. Provides safe patient care at a basic level. Demonstrates principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience. Has basic knowledge of surgical procedures and patient anatomy. Demonstrates awareness of environmental safety practices for patient, self and team at all times. Able to take specialty certification exam upon completion of accredited surgical technology program. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Currently enrolled or graduated from a surgical technologist training program accredited by CAHEEP/ABHES OR NCCT Approved program. Experience: No experience required. Licensure: BLS required. Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA (The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or NCCT (The National Center for Competency Testing) required at time of start date. Current Registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at the time of hire. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: passing instruments, lifting heavy instrument sets. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull >50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The starting base rate for this role is $26.41 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
