Description At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields. The Survey Engineer supports field surveyors, engineering teams, and equipment/machine operators by preparing accurate technical drawings and plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This role involves converting field data and survey notes into detailed maps and construction drawings while ensuring precision and compliance with industry standards. This position is based in Nashville, TN, or Charlotte, NC, but may require travel to other project locations as needed. What You'll Do: Draft and update survey drawings based on project and construction plans Process field data and incorporate it into CAD files Maintain and organize relevant survey and engineering project files and documentation Work closely and collaborate with field surveyors, engineers, and project managers to build survey/machine control files, document quantities, attend project-related meetings, and support operations/production needs Perform quality checks of maps, files, and as-builts to ensure accuracy and consistency Promote and support adherence to safety, quality, and company standards Utilize and support surveying technologies, including GPS, total stations, and 3D models Requirements What We Look For: Requirements High school diploma or equivalent, required; associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, surveying technology/land surveying, construction management, or a related field, preferred 2 years of surveying experience in the field, required; 2+ years in a heavy/civil construction setting, preferred Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD or Carlson Civil, preferred Basic understanding of surveying principles and mapping techniques Willingness to learn and take direction Skills: Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills Time management and handling multiple tasks simultaneously Auto CAD Mathematical and spatial reasoning Strong communication and teamwork skills Additional Requirements: Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases). Valid driver’s license. Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces. If applicable, indicate union affiliation in your application.
