POSITION SUMMARY:

The Land Surveyor Party Chief is responsible for leading a survey field crew in the collection of data and measurements used in land development, construction, boundary determination, and topographic mapping. This role ensures the accuracy, efficiency, and safety of all fieldwork and communicates closely with office personnel and project managers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required;
  • 3–5 years of experience in land surveying with at least 1 year in a supervisory or party chief role.
  • Proficient in the use of survey instruments including robotic total stations, GPS, and data collectors.
  • Knowledge of surveying methods, principles, and practices, including construction layout.
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with Trimble or Leica equipment and software.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and record accurate field data and notes for processing and drafting by office staff.
  • Perform calculations in the field as needed to layout or check survey points.
  • Ensure adherence to project specifications, deadlines, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate field activities with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Train and supervise survey technicians and junior crew members.
  • Ensure proper care, calibration, and transportation of all survey equipment.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures on job sites.
