Job Title: Survey Technician Department: Engineering Reports to: Town Engineer Effective Date: 6/30/2026 Job Duties/Responsibilities: A Survey Technician within our Department of Public Works Engineering Division plays a vital, hands-on role in both the field and the office, working under the direct supervision and mentorship of the Licensed Town Engineer. In this position, the Survey Technician will support essential Town infrastructure projects by collecting accurate field data and translating it into precise technical drawings. Daily work will include mapping local utility networks, conducting topographic surveys for Town streets and parks, and drafting base maps in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Required Skills/Abilities: Software Skills: Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Calrson, Bluebeam, and basic knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS/ArcMap) is highly preferred. Ability to manage and track jobs in a unified workload management system. Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction plans, deeds, and legal descriptions. Neatly record measurements, physical observations, and sketches in the field. Solid understanding of algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry for field calculations. Education and Experience: * At least 3 years of experience in land surveying and drafting. * A valid driver’s license is required for this position * No professional surveying license is required Physical Requirements: * A split environment requiring both office drafting and active outdoor field work. * Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) and navigate uneven, wooded, or steep terrain. * Ability to clear brush, stake out routes, and place physical land markers (rods or stakes). * Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of surveying equipment.
