Underhill Geomatics is seeking a Survey Technician for project activities in Victoria. Applicants with a Civil background would be welcomed as well.

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Survey Technician, you will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of surveying operations, both in the field and office. You will work closely with the surveying team to collect, analyze, and process survey data, as well as support the implementation of survey projects. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of surveying principles and equipment. This position is primarily based in Victoria; however, flexibility is key as out-of-town work is anticipated on a project-to-project basis.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: A diploma or degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working as a Survey Technician or in a similar role, preferably in a surveying or geospatial industry, is highly desirable.
  • Surveying Knowledge: Solid understanding of surveying principles, techniques, and equipment, including the use of total stations, GPS receivers, and levels.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS) and familiarity with data processing and analysis tools.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy and precision in survey data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members, convey technical information, and contribute to project documentation.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve survey-related challenges.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Field Surveying: Assist in conducting various types of field surveys, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction layout, and control point establishment, using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and levels.
  • Data Collection: Assist in data collection activities, including measuring distances, angles, and elevations, recording field notes, capturing images, and performing other tasks as directed by the surveying team.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain surveying instruments and equipment, ensuring their proper functionality and calibration. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the surveying team.
  • Data Processing: Support the surveying team in processing and analyzing survey data, including data entry, verification, adjustment, and basic calculations using software and spreadsheet tools.
  • CAD Drafting: Assist in creating accurate and detailed CAD drawings based on survey data, ensuring compliance with project requirements and surveying standards.
  • Field Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment during field survey activities. Follow surveying standards and regulations in all survey operations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Assist in the preparation of survey reports, field notes, and other project-related documentation. Ensure accurate record-keeping and proper documentation of survey activities.
  • Quality Control: Participate in quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of survey data and deliverables. Verify survey results and identify any errors or inconsistencies.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with surveyors, project managers, and other team members to ensure effective communication, coordination, and timely completion of survey projects.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest surveying techniques, equipment, software, and industry trends. Seek opportunities for professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in surveying.
