Description

WHO WE ARE?

Urban Equation is a sustainability strategy and development consulting practice with a mission to change the way we build. We believe that the decisions we make about the way we design, build and operate communities are crucial for ensuring a prosperous future for people and the planet. That’s why we work with developers, municipalities and landowners every day to deliver healthy, inclusive and low-carbon communities.
We aren’t your typical development advisor. Using a systems approach to sustainability, Urban Equation unlocks opportunities for our clients to achieve impact in ways that are technically robust and financially viable. We connect the dots between topics ranging from embodied carbon to urban agriculture to affordability, without losing sight of the realities of real estate development.
Urban Equation is proud to be a part of the Windmill Group of Companies, which includes Windmill Developments and the One Planet Living Fund. Together, we advise on, develop and invest in communities that care for people and nature.
If you are serious about change-making and want the opportunity to grow with a dynamic, collaborative and visionary Group of Companies, consider a career with Urban Equation. We are a purpose-driven team of architects, planners, engineers, developers, and sustainability professionals who aren’t afraid to think big and challenge the status quo. If you believe in the possibility of better urban communities, we’d love to hear from you.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Consultant to join our team and play a key role in growing Urban Equation’s Sustainability Strategy & Implementation Advisory practice by advising on sustainability solutions for community and building level sustainability projects across North America. The successful candidate will establish client relationships and lead sustainable real‑estate projects, providing the strategy, engagement, business modelling, and project management needed to deliver integrated, sustainability solutions for communities and buildings.
Working closely with developers, policymakers, and industry leaders, the Consultant will drive best-in-class solutions, financial feasibility assessments, and technical implementation strategies that guide clients toward achieving low-carbon, high-performance developments.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • 3–5 years of experience in sustainability, real estate, or planning consulting.
  • Experience managing / delivering LEED certified projects.
  • Undergraduate degree in planning, environmental science, real estate, business, or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience analyzing sustainable, financial and real estate-related data and translating insights into strategic, business, and financial recommendations.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to contribute to multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, and ensure quality deliverables.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders across the public and private sectors.
  • Understanding embodied carbon, life cycle assessments, sustainability in real estate, and the development industry in Canada. Experience delivering LCA’s is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, visual, and written formats.
  • Proven leadership in client engagement and project delivery.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian development industry.
  • Advanced degree and certifications (e.g., LEED AP) are considered assets.
Responsibilities

Specifically, you will:

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality consulting services, managing scope elements and client satisfaction independently.
  • Develop sustainability strategies, guides, plans and other strategic documents to deliver meaningful impact for owner / developers.
  • Deliver certification services related to LEED, Zero Carbon Buildings and One Planet Living, as well as other similar frameworks.
  • Support internal client relations with Windmill Developments, including strategy and reporting initiatives.
  • Lead market research, financial analysis, and business case development across various sustainability, energy, and real estate projects.

  • Drive proposal writing, strategic scoping, and pricing models for new business pursuits.
  • Proactively support project execution to meet defined success criteria and KPIs.
  • Ensure delivery quality, profitability, and alignment with Urban Equation’s impact objectives.
  • Present at industry events, contribute thought leadership, and represent UE in the market.
  • Oversee climate risk assessment and development of vulnerability assessments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
