THE SERVICE & TEAM:
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Environment Service for a Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) Officer, working in the forward-thinking Environmental Resilience and Adaptation Team.
The Environmental Resilience and Adaptation Team plays a key role in the strategic planning for of a variety of climate risks faced by the region. Our role in managing these risks is delivered via a variety of statutory responsibilities, and the declaration of a Climate Emergency which led to the production of a Cornwall Climate Risk Assessment . In assessing, managing and mitigating these risks, we aim to make Cornwall and its people more resilient and adaptable to a changing climate.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
We are looking for someone with experience in the flood and coastal sector who has specialist technical knowledge of Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) design and implementation, and its role in the Town and County Planning Act 1990.
You will be able to confidently engage and liaise with a varied range of stakeholders, customers and internal colleagues and will be able ensure that, so far as is practicable, sustainable drainage systems are compliant with the legislative requirements.
THE ROLE:
The Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) Officer is responsible for reviewing sustainable drainage design proposals and providing specialist advice.
The post holder will provide technical support in line with the Council’s duties as the Lead Local Flood Authority for Cornwall under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. Support and advice to the Council’s Planning Service, Estate Adoptions Team, Elected Members, and Town and Parish Councils is a key part of this role. The post holder is required to review and interrogate Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, calculations and drawings submitted to support planning submissions and project proposals.
The post holder will be required to develop collaborative relationships and work with internal colleagues and external organisations to promote the delivery of innovative approaches to the provision and management of sustainable drainage systems. They will be required to liaise with and advise applicants, developers, planning agents, consultants, other parties and work with organisations including the Environment Agency and South West Water Ltd.
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
