Embark on a journey within the Sustainable Finance Team, within the CIB – Global Structured Finance SBU. At the heart of our Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) strategy, Sustainable Finance is more than a product. It’s a purpose driving how we originate, structure and deliver impact led financing regionally and across Africa. From collaborating with stakeholders in mobilizing capital to embedding impact at every stage of the lending lifecycle, our desk plays a pivotal, cross-functional role within the Group and CIB, supporting front office teams, internal stakeholders and clients while positioning MCB as a regional leader in sustainable finance. We are on the lookout for: Job vacancy: Sustainable Finance Lead We are seeking a seasoned professional with strong technical and impact assessment expertise to lead the integration of environmental and technical expertise into MCB’s sustainable finance activities. This role will focus on strengthening the bank’s capabilities in evaluating, and structuring ESG-aligned transactions, products and initiatives. Reporting to the Team Leader, The Sustainable Finance Lead will also work closely with the relationship management teams, clients, risk and broader sustainability functions across the bank and MCB Group to advance ESG initiatives. In this role you will; * Lead the technical design and structuring of sustainable finance products, ensuring credibility and compliance with international standards, internal methodologies and MCB’s Sustainable Finance Framework and provide technical input during client engagements and mandates; * Provide a first line expert input on eligibility assessment (incl. taxonomy alignment) of sustainable finance transactions; * Provide tailored advice on sustainability frameworks, and in defining and negotiating KPI/SPT selection, and adjustment mechanisms; * Participate in key ESG initiatives and client dialogue on ESG topics with clients, relationship management teams to position MCB as thought partner and trusted advisor on ESG topics such as sustainable and transition financing; * Assist the Team Leader in strategy formulation as well as in accurate and timely reporting of transactions for internal and external stakeholders and support team members and respective working group in the design and formulation of product policies and guidelines; * Lead internal technical training and knowledge-sharing across CIB to strengthen ESG understanding and support deal teams with technical insights; * Collaborate with internal sustainability teams across the bank and the group to uphold due diligence standards, support the development of thematic frameworks, sector guidelines, and tools for impact assessment, data management, monitor borrower compliance with ESG commitments and support the transition plan assessment of the Bank’s clients; * Engage with DFIs, consultants, and technical partners to align with best practices and contribute to innovation in ESG methodologies and impact measurement.   To succeed in this position, you will be required to demonstrate the following competencies:  * Make good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward; * Anticipate and adopt innovations in business-building digital and technology applications; * Take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm; * Plan and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.   We are looking for a candidate who has a minimum of: EITHER * Bachelor’s degree in environmental or chemical engineering, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, or related discipline. * 7-10 years of experience in ESG/sustainability consultancies/advisory or climate related technical roles. OR * 13 years of experience in ESG/sustainability consultancies or advisory roles, or in climate-related technical positions. AND * Strong understanding of ESG principles and frameworks, climate finance, taxonomies, corporate-level & product-level GHG accounting standards and decarbonization-related regulations; * Familiarity with international standards (e.g., ICMA, GRI, SBTi, PCAF); * Experience working with or in or alongside development finance institutions, FIs, PE/infra funds, and banks; * Professional certifications in ESG or sustainable finance from recognised bodies (e.g., CFA, GRI, ICMA, CBI) would be an advantage.   A combination of both qualification & experience will be considered.
