Job description
Are you passionate about making a difference to people and the environment? We are looking for an individual with drive and passion to join our Thames Area Sustainable Places (SP) team.
This 12 month, fixed term position reports into our Sustainable Places Team, embedded within the Environment Planning and Engagement department (EPE), and will also work closely alongside our other Area and national colleagues, and Local Planning Partners, providing exposure to a diverse and exciting range of opportunities.
The successful candidate will have a passion for, and a sound understanding of the planning system and goals around sustainable growth. They will be enthusiastic about developing themselves, and in joining an open, inclusive, kind and trusting team, which supports people to perform at their best.
Alongside this, responding to incidents is a central part of what we do at the Environment Agency. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities and our environment. Everyone starting in a new role will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed. As part of your comprehensive induction, you will be provided with all the equipment required for your role.
The team
The Thames Sustainable Places team lead our Environment Agency’s local input into sustainable development, growth and planning policy matters. Seeking to secure the best possible environmental outcomes by working closely with internal colleagues, local councils, numerous developers, and partners.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for applicants who will enjoy the challenge of working within a busy team with focussed deadlines, will be confident in building networks and in representing the Environment Agency with customers, partners and stakeholders in matters relating to our role within the UK planning system. You will also be able to demonstrate your excellent communication skills.
Contact and additional information
This 12 month FTC will be based in our Thames Area. Some travel will be required to offices and locations. We support flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share. Our hybrid working model combines home and office working, however you will be expected to attend the office for certain meetings.
Interviews for this role are due to begin from w/c the 23rd of June, via MS teams.

Its important that the successful candidate has an awareness and understanding of this, and an ability to use their skills to help the team to secure it.
Please can you describe your approach to working with others, including customers or partners. With examples, please explain how your skills would align to this within the context of this position.
Competence 3
Technical Skills
Description
Whilst not imperative, an appreciation of the planning landscape, and our role within it would be desirable and successful candidate will be able to describe their experience in this.
In your words, please describe to us why the role of our SP (sustabilable places) team is important, and what experience and or skills you have within this area.
Competence 4

There is clear evidence of the wealth of benefits that diversity brings to both our home and work lives. This role is no different, requiring interaction and collaboration across a wide-ranging audience, and an appreciation of the benefits that each one brings. It’s important that the successful candidate can work successfully, with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, ensuring that work is managed so that everyone is able to deliver their best.
What does equality, diversity and inclusion mean to you and can you give an example where you have generated a better outcome through applying this to your work / role / team.
