A Day in the Life As a Big Capital Engineer, you will facilitate the quick resolution of any need for repair and installation of our Big Capital equipment which includes but is not limited to Hugo™ Robotic-Assisted Surgery system, O-arm™ intraoperative 2D/3D imaging system, Mazor™ Robotic guidance system and Affera™ Cardiac Mapping and Ablation system. This position is responsible for performing comprehensive system testing, identifying root causes of any failure modes, and proposing, implementing, and documenting corrective actions to eliminate failure modes. You will develop processes for the testing, rework, repair, and disposition of all Service Returned products for the Big Capital Operating Units (OU). You may work with the OU’s Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality teams, including the Complaint department to determine product failures. You will also be responsible for complying with all local and global policies and procedures. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned: Perform comprehensive functional testing, troubleshooting, calibration, adjustment, diagnosis, and maintenance of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical equipment, components, devices, and systems to ensure full compliance of Big Capital equipment prior to customer shipment. Manage return inventory activities, including inventory movements, triage, preparation for failure analysis, tracking of return inventory locations, and completion of decontamination procedures on returned parts as required. Execute repair and testing processes by setting up and operating machines, equipment, and fixtures, while supporting logistics activities such as crating/uncrating high-level assemblies, spare parts, and other assigned tasks. Serve as a subject matter expert in key areas related to the manufacture and repair of Class III medical devices, providing technical expertise and guidance on complex procedures. Conduct failure analysis and confirmation by analysing product failures, troubleshooting issues, identifying root causes, verifying corrective actions, and applying statistical techniques to provide evidence supporting root cause analysis conclusions. Support the development and improvement of failure analysis strategies and technical management efforts to identify, investigate, and correct device failures in the field, while training, coaching, and guiding employees on complex procedures and root cause analysis methodologies. Collaborate and influence outcomes within high-energy, cross-functional, and multi-site teams—including R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality/Development, and Manufacturing/Operations—to develop and execute complex experiments and tests on existing product lines, investigate manufacturing issues, analyse results, make recommendations, qualify products/processes, and develop technical reports. Required Knowledge and Experience: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering in the medical device industry with key technologies and processes related to the assembly and manufacture of Class II or III devices Experience in leading and serving in a technical role for Failure Analysis or Reliability Engineering Experience with Big Capital platform or complex mechanical system Extensive knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to engineering, especially product development, manufacturing engineering, and failure modes and experience with a variety of software packages, e.g, Agile, SAP, etc are considered an advantage for this role.
