Description Summary Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the Chief Lending Officer (CLO) serves as a key member of the Executive Management Team responsible for enterprise-wide leadership, strategy and performance of all lending functions of the credit union including loan production, underwriting, servicing, portfolio management, and lending compliance. The CLO ensures all lending strategies, operations and outcomes are aligned with the credit union business plan and financial objectives to drive sustainable growth, profitability and member value. Primary Duties Provides strategic leadership and direction for Consumer Lending, Mortgage, Commercial Lending, Collections, and Loan Operations across the full lending lifecycle. Develops strategies that drive sustainable loan growth, portfolio profitability, operational efficiency, and member loyalty. Partners with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to achieve production, business development and organizational initiatives and is accountable for execution of lending-related components of the credit union’s business plan. Oversees the credit union’s risk-based lending framework, including pricing strategies, risk pools, underwriting standards, controls and loan loss mitigation. Monitors portfolio performance, market trends and risk indicators to ensure sound credit quality. Serves as the primary management lead for all lending-related regulatory examinations and independent audits, including NCUA examinations and CPA audits, and is accountable for timely remediation of any lending-related findings. Ensures Lending and Collections policies, procedures & practices are current, effective and compliant with applicable laws & regulations, and consistent across all lending channels and functions. Serves as a voting member of ALCO, contributing to interest rate strategy, balance sheet management and overall financial performance. Leads and manages Loan Committees. Attends & presents at Board Meetings, as requested. As a member of the Executive Management Team, promotes the credit union internally and externally and supports a unified, collaborative and cohesive leadership culture, in line with credit union mission, vision and core values. Acts as a trusted advisor to the President/CEO. Provides executive oversight of lending vendors and third-party servicers, ensuring services align with business needs, performance expectations, member experience standards, and regulatory requirements. Oversees the operational budgets for Consumer, Mortgage, Commercial, Asset Recovery, and Operations Servicing, ensuring effective cost management, efficient staffing models and responsible use of resources in support of performance objectives. Fosters high-performance culture that emphasizes professionalism, teamwork and alignment with credit union values and objectives. Provides advisory support to management and/or Real Estate Committee regarding credit union-owned real estate holdings, including strategic considerations related to acquisitions, dispositions and third-party property oversight. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Education Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Management, Finance, or the equivalent combination of training and experience. MBA preferred. Experience Must have a minimum of five (5) years in an upper-level management position, preferably in the financial institution industry. Must have ten (10) years of lending experience with a proven record of success growing a sound loan portfolio in the consumer, mortgage and/or commercial lending area. Skills Must have the following skills and/or abilities: Must possess strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, influence, promote teamwork and develop strong collaborative teams. Must possess strong communication skills (both oral and written). Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of all phases of lending to include consumer, commercial, indirect, and mortgage lending. Small business lending experience and knowledge of SBA is preferred. Must have an in-depth knowledge of lending theory, risk-based pricing, credit scoring, automated lending systems, pricing strategies, and portfolio risk analysis. Must possess strong underwriting skills. Must have strong analytical and decision-making skills. Knowledge of financial institution policies and procedures, and all relevant laws, rules and regulations. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent organization and time management skills. Physical/Other Requirements Must be able to: Stand or sit for long periods of time. Lift 10-20 lbs.
