ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

United Way of New York City (UWNYC) works with a coalition of trusted partners to unite community power with citywide possibility. Together, we meet today’s most urgent needs while building transformative solutions for tomorrow — striving for health, opportunity, and prosperity for every New Yorker in every neighborhood. Part of the United Way Worldwide system, one of the world’s most recognized charitable brands, we believe that New Yorkers deserve to thrive where they live and envision a future where all New Yorkers have the resources they need to live long, healthy lives in flourishing and resilient neighborhoods. We strive to model our values in all our relationships, both internal and external: Collaboration, Compassion, Integrity, Accountability, and Superior Performance.

POSITION SUMMARY

United Way of New York City (UWNYC) is seeking a dynamic and highly strategic Senior Vice President, Chief of Staff (CoS) to serve as a trusted partner to the President & CEO. The CoS will be a member of the organization’s Executive Leadership Team and will play a pivotal role in advancing UWNYC’s mission by managing high-level strategic initiatives, driving political and stakeholder strategy, and maximizing the effectiveness of the Office of the President. The Cos will supervise a small team supporting the President’s Office and strategic initiatives.
The Cos will act as an extension of the President & CEO—deepening and coordinating engagement with the Board of Directors, aligning internal and external priorities, and ensuring seamless execution of enterprise-level priorities with a focus on external relations, board engagement, and strategic, cross-functional execution.

  • Strong understanding of the New York City political, philanthropic, and civic landscape.
  • Prior experience in Results-Based Accountability, place-based work, health equity, education equity, food & benefits access, or justice & opportunity a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Exceptional political judgment, discretion, and ability to operate in complex stakeholder environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and high-pressure situations with tact and efficiency.
