Role Overview Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Coach/Aquatics Program Leader supports the Clubhouse by being passionate about water safety, skill development, and youth mentorship. This role combines coaching, instruction, leadership, and lifeguarding in a supportive, mission-driven environment. Key Responsibilities Program Instruction & Safety Head Coach of one of the three competitive training groups of the BGCSF Aquatics Club. Create a yearlong training program appropriate to the skill level and aspirations of the members of each group. Educating swimmers and parents on team culture and competitive swimming etiquette. Design and deliver structured learn-to-swim lessons under BGCSF curriculum and core values. Lead swim instruction classes for a range of ages and skill levels; support and mentor assistant instructors. Lifeguard various aquatics programs, ensuring programs run smoothly while BGCSF enforcing BGCSF safety protocols. Administer first aid, incident reports, and uphold emergency protocols. Proactively communicate with youth on pool rules, protocols, and swim safety. Assisting with Clubhouse supervisions and strong understanding of safe transportation standards. Club Engagement & Support Build positive relationships with youth and their families by greeting participants by name and sharing progress updates. Establish and reinforce Clubhouse culture and values through everyday interactions. Participate actively in Club seasonal events and other swim-related activities designed for Club and community enrichment. Support engagement efforts such as safe-walks, teen nights members interested in Aquatics and other Club program offerings. Facility & Equipment Oversight Open and close the pool as needed for program set up and closure. Ensure pool deck, equipment, and changing areas are clean, safe, and ready for use. Knowledge or ability to learn pool routine chemical testing. Inspect, report, and manage pool gear—store properly and notify supervisor of missing/damaged items. Documentation & Professional Standards Maintain current certifications and attend required training and staff meetings. Notify supervisor prior to certification expiration. Complete documentation accurately and on time (incident reports, timecards, and progress reports). Model professionalism, strong communication, and teamwork. Represent BGCSF’s Core Values at programming at all venues. Requirements Required Skills & Qualifications 2+ Experience teaching swim lessons and/or lifeguarding with youth ages 6–18. 2+ years of coaching experience (age-group or high school level preferred). Ability to work independently and take initiative. Ability to develop aquatic skills, particularly swimming technique. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to cultivate respectful and trusting relationships with children, families, staff, and volunteers. Physical capability to lift up to 50?lb, stand consecutively for at least 2 hours, and perform on-deck and in-water duties (including outdoor pool exposure as needed). Able to hear and see individuals and alarms in and around the pool area. Availability during early mornings, afternoons, weekends—and flexibility to support special program times and events. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation.
