Description Summary The Swim Instructor provides skill-based swim and water safety instruction to beginners of all ages. Maintains constant supervision of students at all times to ensure safety. About Timm Swimm Inc. dba Danvers YMCA Dolfins: We are a coach-owned YMCA-affiliated team out of the North Shore of Massachusetts. The Danvers YMCA Dolfins collaborate with both the Danvers Community YMCA swim lesson program and the local Swimm with Timm program to provide swimmers with a more comprehensive swim team experience. The swim lesson program curriculum is designed to provide swimmers with a deeper understanding of proper swimming technique. Swimmers come to the program with a strong foundation of skills, and the program is designed to develop swimmers through a technique-centered focus, transforming them into strong swimmers at every level of development, from Age Group to Seniors. About YOU: Our employees have the opportunity to be trained anywhere from a swim instructor to a swim coach. You love being in the water and educating kids of all ages! Instructors should have a minimum of two years’ group childcare, teaching, or coaching experience and be willing to obtain CPR, first aid, and lifesaving certifications within the first six months of employment. We are also looking for professional coaches that have strong experience working with Age Group swimmers, with Junior and Senior level swimmer experience preferred. Time will be spent on deck coaching and running dry land practices as directed by the Head Coach. Must have or be willing to obtain USA Swimming and YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certifications. Exercise science or physical fitness background is a plus. All Swim Instructors will be required to complete a minimum of one full group session of training with the Owner or another Lead and will be supervised while instructing Leads beginner group swim lessons while enforcing pool policies, rules, and regulations Maintains constant supervision of students, will identify students who need assistance, and supports students as necessary to ensure a positive learning environment Adheres to policies and procedures in organizational guidelines, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency incidents Maintains positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and other staff as necessary Requirements Required Qualifications High School Diploma Must have or be willing to obtain CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding Certificate Must have clean CORI and SORI background check Ability to recognize and remedy hazardous and dangerous situations Ability to swim in shallow and deep water and tread water Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm Ability to recognize students who may need assistance Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, lifejackets, etc. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree 1-3 years of experience on a competitive swim team 1-3 years of experience as a swim team coach 1-3 years of experience as a swim instructor Work Environment The Swim Instructor must remain indoors at a facility pool with water and air temperatures of 75 degrees or higher at all times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemicals and fumes. Physical Demands Walks, runs, sits, stands, bends, lifts, swims and moves continually during working hours; is subject to lifting over 50 pounds. Must remain alert and able to recognize distress signals. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a part-time position and hours will vary. Targeting Sunday hours.
