Description Position Summary: The Swim Lessons Coordinator will provide instruction to the students enrolled in swim lessons and will oversee scheduling and staffing for swim lessons. Essential Functions: Guarantee the safety and well-being of aquatic participants by being alert and aware of potential danger areas. At all times, enforce prescribed safety procedures and rules of good behavior and courtesy to ensure a safe and pleasant pool environment for participants. Greet and give directions to all pool participants in a warm and friendly manner. Instruct swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines including having prepared lesson plans. Build effective, authentic relationships with students enrolled in swim lessons as well as their parents. Conveys correct information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs. Maintains class records (i.e. attendance, progress reports, schedules, etc.) Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Schedule and manage swim lessons for all students. Know and follow all YMCA policies and procedures including those for emergencies and accidents. Help Train new Swim Lesson Instructors. Keep pool area neat by keeping all pool equipment out of the path of traffic, and immediately reporting to maintenance any unclean or hazardous area. Requirements Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a valid YMCA lifeguarding certification. Must be CPR, First Aid, AED and Bloodborne Pathogens certified. Must be a certified Swim Lesson instructor within 60 days of hire. Instructor/trainer level preferred. Completion of Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff. Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to market programs to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Physical Demands Ability to conduct swim lessons and other activities. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position including swimming, diving, treading water, retrieving items from underwater, moving equipment around pool deck and other physical demands.
