Job Details Job Location: Orangeburg County YMCA - Orangeburg, SC Position Type: Part Time Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.00 Hourly Description Position Summary: The Swim Team Coach is responsible for developing and leading a competitive and inclusive swim team program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The coach will design practices, provide technique instruction, motivate swimmers, and manage meet participation while ensuring safety and promoting the values of the organization. Essential Functions: Plan, organize, and conduct practices for all swim team levels, focusing on stroke development, endurance, and performance. Create a season training plan that prepares athletes for local, regional, and national competition as appropriate. Supervise swimmers to ensure safety and discipline during practices and competitions. Attend and coach at swim meets; manage team entries, warm-ups, and race strategy. Communicate regularly with swimmers, parents, and staff regarding practice schedules, meets, expectations, and swimmer progress. Foster a positive and encouraging team environment that supports youth development. Maintain accurate records including attendance, meet results, and swimmer times. Ensure compliance with USA Swimming, YMCA, or league regulations and safety protocols. Collaborate with other coaches, lifeguards, and facility staff to support the aquatics program as needed. Serve as a role model by demonstrating the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum age: 18 High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred. Competitive swimming and/or prior coaching experience required. USA Swimming Coach Certification or YMCA Swim Coach Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire). CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen completed within 60 days of hire. Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment training completed within 30 days of hire. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate swim team practices and competitions. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 lbs. at a time.
