Description
Under the direction of the department supervisor, is responsible for relaying incoming and outgoing hospital telephone calls, utilizing hospital equipment, and other hospital communications as assigned. Also, responsible for other hospital communications as assigned. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Answers calls, provides information, and relays incoming telephone calls to the proper location. Pages hospital staff members over the hospital paging system. Announces emergency codes and general information messages, as necessary. Keeps a running log of all calls received and records the activity done for that call (ex: overhead page, connect to long distance, pages on a pager or radio security). Makes and records authorized long distance telephone calls. Provides information to the public, patients, guests, and others. Performs clerical functions and duties as assigned, which includes computer knowledge. Monitor a variety of alarm systems for maintenance and security. Receives package deliveries after regular business hours. Assumes responsibilities for the sign-out and return of the key file box and telephone equipment room. Directs patients and visitors to appropriate locations upon request. Contacts hospital security for any person requesting their services. Trains new employees on the operations of the switchboard console. Receives and reports weather and civil defense warnings. Performs other related responsibilities as necessary. Required: High school diploma or equivalent. One year of customer service experience. Preferred: Previous switchboard, phone operator, or related experience.
