Description Brattleboro Memorial Hospital / Southern Vermont Health Services Corporation Job Description Job Title: Switchboard Operator ED Registration Job Code: 147 Hours: 11p-7a Sunday-Thursday FTE: 1.0 Weekend Schedule: Sunday Overnights Holiday Schedule: Possible Holiday Hours Call Schedule: N/A FLSA Status: Non-exempt Department Name: Switchboard Department Code: 9370 Location: Brattleboro, Vermont JOB SUMMARY: The Operator is responsible for all the functions relating to the operations of the switchboard. Receives all incoming calls, provides information regarding patients, hospital services and events. Runs an internal and external beeper system. Handles all hospital codes; monitors and responds to all alarm panels. Maintains key log. Keeps an accurate log of all necessary calls and codes. Provides after hours registration coverage and support to the Business Office. DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE: The Switchboard department provides a full range of communication services and is fully staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They also register in- and out-patients after 5:00 p.m. weekdays and all-day weekends and holidays. The Switchboard also assists the business office. They are responsible for monitoring the parking area video system and alerting security when necessary. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or equivalent education preferred; associate’s degree preferred. Experience: Switchboard experience desirable, preferably in a hospital environment, or on a similar system. Licensure/Certification: None. Mental Efforts: Ability to think quickly and respond to multiple requests for information. Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. significant use of PC monitor. Stressful environment due to extremely busy board and Emergent situations. Ability to adapt to a diversity of customers. Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits. Environment & Working Conditions: Flexible to work irregular hours on short notice.
