General Description: The purpose of a school social worker is to provide critical social/emotional support and intervention so that each student can access his/her education.Duties and Responsibilities:

• Implement school, district and department policies.
• Collaborate with the team on curriculum and students needs.
• Create and manage effective communication with parents, community based organizations, and universities.
• Share in preparation of individualized education plans, as it relates to mental health goals of students.
• Collaborates in the development of behavioral intervention plans.
• Provide home based assessments as indicated by need of student, school or district.
• Provide counseling, case management and crisis intervention as indicated by need of the student, teacher or district.
• Maintain professional competencies in areas of responsibilities.
• Maintain a student database.
• Participate in student based grade level, administrative, and discipline meetings.
• Responsible for investigating and filling 51A reports.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Participate in the pre- referral process of special education.
• Commit to increasing the positive climate between and amongst peers.
• Seek professional development.

Qualifications:

• Meets the standards of highly qualified as outlined by federal mandate, No Child Left Behind.
• Hold a Masters degree in related field;
• Certification in School Social Work.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in an elementary school setting.
• High interest / experience with the social / emotional / academic needs of urban children.
• LCSW required.
