Job Title: Syndicate Finance Team Lead
Location: Dublin - Hybrid - 2 days in office per week
Key Relationships: Syndicate Finance Manager / Syndicate Controller, (other) Syndicate Finance Team Lead, Finance team, Lloyd’s of London, Banks, Actuaries, Underwriters, Ceded RI, Underwriting Teams, Technical Accounting and Auditors.
Job Summary: Responsible for managing a team of three syndicate accountants and providing support to the Syndicate Controller in maintaining/preparing accurate syndicate ledgers and providing analysis and management information to various stakeholders. You will work with the other Syndicate Finance Team Lead to deliver required deliverables for the seven syndicates that Beazley own and manage. The Syndicate Reporting team comprises 10 finance professionals.

This may include, amongst others, Beazley’s underwriting control standards, Beazley’s claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
- Preparation of quarterly accounting ledgers for seven syndicates. This will include review of subordinate work as well as preparation of your own work.
- Preparation and review of key balance sheet reconciliations on a quarterly basis.
- Liaise with colleagues across Finance regarding quarterly close timelines and ad-hoc issues as they arise.
- Maintenance and enhancement of controls process relevant to you and your team.
- Support the year end audit process for seven syndicates.
- Manage preparation and review of UK GAAP (FRS 102/103) statutory accounts for seven syndicates.
- Liaise with underwriters, actuaries, auditors, senior management and/or third parties as appropriate.
Team
- Management and mentorship of three syndicate accountants.
- Manage the workload and development of your team.
- Ensure that your staff have clearly defined objectives and valid job descriptions setting out their responsibilities and reporting lines.
Finance projects and process improvements:
- Between busy periods seek to drive accounting process improvement. This can include the adaptation of new systems and data. This will involve leadership of your accountants and an element of being ‘in the detail’.
- Support Syndicate Finance Manager/Syndicate Controller with Ad-Hoc requests and projects as necessary.
Personal Specification:
Education and Qualifications
- Qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA or equivalent) – minimum of 3 years PQE.
- University degree in finance/business/accounting preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced Excel skills essential.
- Intermediate level knowledge non-life insurance accounting.
- Working knowledge of IFRS/FRS102/FRS103. IFRS 17 knowledge not essential.
- Intermediate skills working with MS Office software, such as Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to work as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proactive, self starter, seeks continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise.
Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge of non-life insurance company accounting is preferred.
- Knowledge of Lloyds market/syndicate accounting is preferred, but not essential.
