Location: Dubai Department: IT Infrastructure Reports to: IT Manager / Infrastructure Lead
Job Purpose:
To ensure the reliable operation of IT infrastructure and data center systems by handling system administration tasks, proactively monitoring services, managing vendors, overseeing backups, and maintaining hardware assets. The role also involves ownership of SLA compliance and a hands-on presence during critical infrastructure activities, including site visits to remote data center locations when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
System Administration
- Perform system administration tasks such as user account management, patch updates, system monitoring, and log analysis.
- Support OS-level health checks and regular maintenance tasks.
- Maintain system documentation, configuration records, and operational procedures.
- Assist in automation of routine system tasks where applicable.
Data Center Monitoring & Incident Management
- Monitor servers, storage, network devices, and environmental infrastructure on a 24x7 basis (or during assigned shift).
- Identify and escalate hardware or system issues as needed.
- Maintain monitoring dashboards and ensure accurate alert handling.
- Take full responsibility during planned/unplanned data center maintenance (e.g., AC, power shutdowns), remaining onsite until services are fully restored.
- Visit primary or remote data center locations as needed to perform hands-on tasks or coordinate support activities.
Infrastructure Hardware Management
- Manage and maintain physical infrastructure including servers, storage units, and network devices.
- Coordinate hardware installations, upgrades, and replacements.
- Perform basic diagnostics and coordinate vendor RMA processes.
- Maintain proper documentation, inventory, labeling, and cabling standards in the data center.
Backup Monitoring & Coordination
- Monitor scheduled backup operations to ensure successful completion.
- Inform application and database teams of any failed or incomplete backups.
- Work with vendors or internal teams to troubleshoot backup issues.
- Maintain logs and reports for audit and compliance purposes.
Vendor Management & SLA Ownership
- Serve as the primary contact for all vendor-related escalations and support activities.
- Raise and follow up on service requests, ensuring timely resolution as per SLA.
- Monitor and track vendor performance against agreed SLAs, and escalate delays or violations.
- Keep detailed records of vendor tickets, service history, and contract details.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Information Technology or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in a System Administrator or similar role.
- Proficiency in system monitoring and enterprise backup tools (e.g., Commvault, Veeam).
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure hardware and vendor management practices.
- Experience with IT asset management and lifecycle tracking.
- Knowledge of ITIL principles; certification is a plus.
- Strong communication, coordination, and troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel to remote sites when required.
Working Conditions:
- On-site presence required for data center operations and maintenance.
- May involve after-hours or weekend availability during major system changes or downtime.
- Travel to remote data center locations within UAE may be required for support and maintenance tasks.
