Since 1965, Stoneridge has designed and manufactured advanced, award-winning technologies including driveline and transmission actuation systems, vision systems, emissions control systems, safety systems, and security and monitoring systems for vehicle OEMs in the commercial vehicle, automotive, off-highway and agricultural vehicle markets. We’re focused on the areas of greatest market need – both today and tomorrow. Our core products and technologies are aligned with industry megatrends including safety and security, vehicle intelligence, fuel efficiency and emissions. Join the Stoneridge Team as we continue to build upon our strong history and reputation for quality products to deliver innovative products and systems that address a need, exceed our customers’ expectations, and motivate our team.
Goal of the function
Translates the company goals and programme/product customer requirements into system requirements and a system design definition. Such definitions include: a breakdown of the system into components, the component interactions and interfaces (including with the environment and the user), and the technologies and resources to be used in the design.
Architects are generalists. They are expected to be knowledgeable of many technologies and able to judge their applicability to specific situations. They also apply their knowledge to practical situations, but evaluate the cost/benefits of various solutions using different technologies, for example, electronics versus software versus mechanical, and assure that the system as a whole performs according to the stakeholder’s expectations.
Responsibilities:
Education and experience
Complexity
The system architect function is aimed at developing the right system setup so that it can be efficiently developed for series production products. Fulfills a pivotal role within the organization, must take into account many (international) stakeholders in many layers of the organization. Hereby must take into account regularly changing (internal) customer wishes and applicable laws and regulations. The function has analytical, directional and administrative activities. Switches fairly regularly between all aspects and different projects. Looking ahead and looking broadly are required when setting up architectures. Time constraints can occur around the dead-lines of the various projects. Has a HBO working and thinking level, supplemented with broad current knowledge of technology. Knowledge of automotive core tools, relevant laws and regulations and network techniques. Needs to stay current in the field and have knowledge of the English language in speech and writing
Control capacity
The time format is determined by the critical moments within the development projects. Determines planning and priorities yourself, possibly with supervisor and project manager. The work approach is bound to customer requirements, project definition, project budget, project planning and applicable laws and regulations. Determines within this context the interpretation of the system architecture. Initiative and technical creativity are required. The supervision is indirect in the form of regular consultations and reports. Subject-specific supervision is possible to a limited extent. The choices to be made concern the progress and quality of one’s own work and of others for the benefit of the end result. Determines the architecture and essential hardware / software components of the products. Provides input at tactical level with regard to the form and functionality of the products. The system architect thus also determines the way in which the products are produced.
Has internal contact with supervisor (project progress and quality), colleagues from various departments (coordination on project progress, problem solving and definition of products) and with (international) management. These contacts are crucial for the realization of new designs and products.
Risk of failure
Is a pivot in the projects and also looks over various projects. Has external contact regarding knowledge network about technical possibilities, new developments, components and material properties. These contacts are important for the realization of new product (families) against optimum quality and functionality and a production process that is as efficient as possible as well as low costs.
Errors and / or negligence in the system architecture can lead to problems with functionality and complexity during the development phase, complexity and costs during the production phase and damage to the image of customers. The chance of detecting and correcting errors in time is moderate to reasonable and is based on self-checking, testing and counterplay by others. Discretion is required with regard to technical product and company data.
Physical Aspects
Works under office conditions. Works on a screen and in meeting rooms.
