Responsibilities

We are seeking a talented and motivated System Design and Integration Engineer with hands-on experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and integration of advanced battery storage solutions into Caterpillar’s distributed energy resource (DER) platforms. This position is ideal for an engineer with approximately 3 years of industry experience in energy storage systems, electrical system design, or power electronics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and integrate Battery Energy Storage Systems into hybrid power solutions, microgrids, and off-grid applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (controls, mechanical, electrical, software) to ensure successful system-level integration of battery components (BMS, inverters, thermal management systems, etc.).
  • Support development of functional specifications, electrical schematics, and interface control documents for BESS.
  • Perform system simulations, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and verification of electrical safety, energy management, and grid interconnection compliance.
  • Assist in prototyping and field validation of BESS designs under real-world operating conditions.
  • Engage with suppliers and vendors to evaluate components and subsystems (batteries, inverters, enclosures).
  • Support product development lifecycle activities including DFMEA, system validation, and root cause analysis.
