Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a highly skilled System Design Engineer with Uncrewed Surface Vessel experience to join our team in our production facility based in Fareham.
As a Systems Design Engineer at SYOS, you’ll be a key player in defining the architecture, integrating, and validating their cutting-edge autonomous systems, with a particular focus on their marine applications. This role is highly cross-functional, requiring close collaboration with hardware, software, and autonomy teams to deliver robust and high-performance solutions, especially for challenging maritime environments.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge uncrewed vehicles within a global aerospace and robotics company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Experience working specifically on unmanned marine vehicles (USVs), and knowledge of autonomy systems and embedded software development tailored for maritime applications.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document both functional and non-functional system requirements for their autonomous vehicles, particularly those operating in marine environments. You’ll translate high-level needs into detailed, verifiable requirements and manage them throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Developing and maintaining the overall system architecture, including defining major subsystems and their interfaces to ensure seamless integration. This involves evaluating and selecting the most effective and efficient technical design options, considering the unique demands of marine operations.
  • Planning and coordinating the integration of hardware and software components into unified, reliable systems, with a focus on their unmanned marine vehicles. You’ll design and execute rigorous testing strategies to verify system performance and validate that all requirements are met, accounting for the complexities of maritime testing. This also includes analysing test results, identifying root causes of anomalies, and troubleshooting issues collaboratively.
  • Serving as a central communication hub between engineering teams to facilitate system-wide coherence and collaboration. You’ll also support continuous improvement by feeding test and performance insights back into system designs, ensuring continuous optimization for marine applications.
