Title
System Director of Internal Communications and Public Relations
The System Director of Internal Communications and Public Relations will report to the Sr VP Business Development and Communications, Chief Strategy Officer and work closely with the System Director, Strategic and Digital Marketing to translate brand strategy into a compelling and integrated internal and public/media relations strategic communication plans.
The focus of this role is to elevate, showcase and enhance our culture, pride and understanding of our mission, values, strategies and unique features with our staff and community.
Also works collaboratively, as a valued advisor, with system executive team and entity/service line leadership to define and execute communication objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, master’s degree preferred.
  • 10 + years of related healthcare communications and public relations experience
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with Executives, Clinical leaders, reporters, advocacy organizations, community leaders etc., and in successfully positioning subject matter experts to achieve high impact results.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence and persuade across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to identify, research, write and edit communications, in a variety of forms including print, online, video, etc. Knowledge and experience in new media technologies and how to utilize them in executing communications strategy.
  • Understanding of inclusive communication practices and working across diverse populations
  • Innovative thinker with a track record for translating priorities into action plans and success in culture-building.
  • Understands the needs of the community and the business needs and competitive challenges of the healthcare industry
  • Strong business analytics, strategy development, project management, problem-solving, office technology and change management skills.
Responsibilities

Internal and Executive Communications

  • Direct the development and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated internal communications plan in alignment with the health system’s strategic, operational and workforce priorities.
  • Monitor “pulse” of the organization and recommend and support two-way communication vehicles to amplify the employee’s and medical staff voices.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders in Human Resources to develop initiatives and communications that inspire a highly engaged workforce. Work with HR, BMG and nursing to build and maintain an authentic employer brand strategy, positioning Bronson as the employer of choice.
  • Oversee the intranet, employee/medical staff newsletters, screensavers and other internal communications vehicles for the health system; and recommend development of new communication channels to deliver organizational messaging.
  • Develop and implement communication plans for transformative cultural, clinical, recruitment or digital initiatives
  • Lead communications for employee and medical staff forums, appreciation events and change management initiatives. Support ERGs.
  • Coach leaders in storytelling and brand ambassadors. Direct executive leadership communications to include speeches, presentations, panel discussions, interviews, op-eds, talking points, correspondence, written internal communications, videos, social posts and other tactics, elevating our leadership and brand.

Public and Media Relations:

  • Direct the development and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated public relations communications plan in alignment with the health system’s strategic, operational and workforce priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant media outlets, members of the press and industry influencers to elevate the brand position.
  • Collaborate with executives and clinical leaders to develop compelling thought leadership content, ensuring the content is insightful and impactful and aligns with our organization’s key pillars/messages and strategic objectives.
  • Consult with executives to create PR tactics relevant to their counties and refine their messaging and storytelling capabilities. Provide training and guidance to enhance their presentation and interview skills and ensure consistent and effective messaging aligned with Bronson’s brand and values.
  • Lead development of group and individual media training sessions for executive and clinical leadership in preparation for interviews with news media.
  • Oversee the development of public relations plans around major media events to include groundbreakings, grand openings, anniversaries, and announcements of gifts, grants, partnerships, etc.

Crisis Communication

  • Partner with emergency management, risk and safety teams to develop emergency preparedness plans.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive issues management and crisis communications policies and plans.
  • Direct coordinated crisis communications and serve as a Bronson spokesperson.
  • Participate in after-action reviews and scenario planning (tabletop exercises, simulations) and improve communication processes as a result.

Brand and Digital Strategy:
Partner with the System Director of Strategic and Digital Marketing to provide input into a robust brand and technology strategy that aligns with Bronson’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. This could include content, storytelling, driving employee digital advocacy, and exploring emerging communication platforms.
Cross Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with others that communicate or represent our brand to ensure brand consistency and message integration, i.e., entity leaders, medical staff office, legislative affairs, HR, CFL, engagement, community health, Health Foundation, and other partner organizations. Work closely with Human Resources to build and maintain a strong employer brand strategy and position Bronson as an employer of choice.

Operations and Performance metrics:

  • Supervise and develop a highly engaged, high performing team (2 staff) and oversee assigned line items in budget.
  • Establish metrics, tools and dashboards associated with PR, employer brand, internal communications, sentiment and engagement, using data and trends to make informed decisions and recommendations.
  • Monitor media coverage, internal communications, community perception and thought leadership initiatives to ensure success and continuously refine and optimize strategies. Monitor competitors’ reputation and media coverage.
