System Engineer (m/f/d) for Science, Exploration and Space Safety Missions

Your Tasks

  • Working in a team of system engineers on the space segment of missions in the domains of Science, Exploration, Space Safety and Space Transportation in Phase 0/A/B1
  • Technical coordination of special departments and single subcontractors
  • Execution of trade-offs, analysis and definition of mission and system architecture
  • Lead the system design of the platform, subsystems and the definition of requirements specification from satellite level down to subsystem level
  • Support activities for Model Based Systems Engineering for the mission
  • Support the analysis of the overall satellite development approach in accordance with the objective of achieving the requested TRL by end of Phase B1
  • Support the definition of the overall project breakdown structure for the satellite development in the form a Work Breakdown Structure for the project implementation phases B2, C/D and E1 up to end of in-orbit commissioning
  • Support the definition of the programme planning for the overall satellite in the project implementation phases B2, C/D and E1 down to in-orbit calibration and validation
  • Support the establishment of a project implementation schedule for the platform in the form of a project bar chart in line with the overall programme planning
  • Support the analysis and assessment of potential cost drivers of the platform
  • Support the analysis and assessment of the technical and programmatic risks related to cost, schedule and technical feasibility of the satellite
  • Support the establishment of risk mitigation measures for the platform

Your Qualifications

  • First experience in mission and satellite design study projects and a strong understanding of the fundamentals and application of system engineering
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for science, exploration, space safety and/or space transportation space missions
  • Competencies in space mission design, satellite systems engineering and spacecraft subsystem design
  • Knowledge of requirements engineering for subsystems of space systems and preparation of specifications
  • Knowledge of design and development planning including determination of the qualification status (TRL)
  • Understanding of the principles of Model Based Systems Engineering
  • High level of flexibility, willingness to work in international teams and ability to keep tight schedules
  • High motivation, pro-active working approach and strong sense of responsibility
  • Excellent communication, presentation and documentation skills
  • Fluency in both spoken and written (business) English
