Description

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this position is to support servers (physical and virtual): build and updates software
and firmware on all servers. Manages the installation of vendor software and support of
departmental applications.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through
periodic meetings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • In-depth understanding of operating systems, depending on the needs of the

organization’s environment.

  • Understanding of different hardware components like servers, storage, and

peripherals.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is

increasingly important.

  • Basic understanding of SQL for querying databases.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve IT issues efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non[1]technical audiences.
  • Ability to provide excellent technical support to internal users.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced

environment.

  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and in critical situations.
  • Ability to learn new technologies is essential to support the evolving IT landscape.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues from various IT and business departments is

crucial.

  • Knowledge of network protocols, configuration, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to use scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate routine tasks.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline.
  • Four (4) years of varied hardware and software or related experience or an equivalent
    combination of education, training, and experience

Responsibilities

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent

  • Maintains servers and system network services: DNS, devices; server/desktop systems

updates and security controls; user network accounts and security groups; maintenance of
group policy for desktops, users and devices; make changes or add new policies as

needed.

  • Configures, creates, manages, and secures servers; monitors integrity of users’ data;

create/manage department folders, calendars, aliases and email groups; troubleshoot

delivery/receipt of email messages; maintain spam and defender for office rules.

  • Monitors and manages servers in virtual center, maintain proper configurations, security

controls and authorizations and backup; create and image servers as requested; monitor
system resources to ensure servers run at optimum performance; adjust or recommend

changes.

  • Manages remote access; backup system, create and manage IP network segments,

application, and portal access for user access; troubleshoot user issues.

  • Reviews, plans, and evaluates systems/servers, recommends improvements, provides

documentation/reporting, assigns and leads work of team members,

  • Work with internal and external partners to prepare project plans, communicate project

status, activities, and achievements.

  • Maintains communication links, cables, and devices.
  • Documents network designs, system configurations, process, and procedures.
  • Performs related work as assigned
