Description

VetsEZ is seeking a Systems Architect / Senior Developer to support the modernization and sustainment of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) VetPro credentialing system. This role will lead architectural design and full-stack development efforts for a mission-critical application used across the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in .NET development, cloud-native architecture, and secure software engineering practices in federal healthcare environments.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in system architecture roles.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft .NET Framework, ASP.NET MVC, C#, and SQL Server.
  • Strong experience with cloud migration and modernization, preferably in Azure or VAEC environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing secure, scalable, and high-availability systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, Git, and Jenkins.
  • Experience supporting federal IT systems, including compliance with ATO and Section 508 requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with credentialing systems or healthcare IT platforms.
  • Knowledge of VA systems, including VetPro, VistA, or VX130.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native services such as Azure App Services, Key Vault, and Application Insights.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, TOGAF, or SAFe Architect.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the architectural design and modernization of the VetPro application, transitioning from legacy infrastructure to a secure, scalable VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) environment.
  • Refactor and optimize .NET Framework codebase to align with microservices architecture and cloud-native best practices.
  • Develop and maintain application components using ASP.NET MVC, C#, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, and SQL Server.
  • Design and implement secure APIs and data integration routines with external systems such as NPDB and FSMB.
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to ensure CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code practices are integrated into the development lifecycle.
  • Support the development and maintenance of system documentation, including architecture diagrams, data flow models, and security artifacts (e.g., SSP, POA&M, SAR).
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives, and contribute to sprint deliverables and release planning.
  • Provide technical leadership in performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, and system hardening in compliance with VA Handbook 6500 and NIST standards.
  • Mentor junior developers and collaborate with cross-functional teams including security, QA, and business analysts.
  • Take on additional tasks as needed.
