Description

In an increasingly connected world, the pandemic has highlighted just how essential telecom networks are to keeping society running. The Network Infrastructure group is at the heart of a revolution to connectivity, pushing the boundaries to deliver more and faster network capacity to people worldwide through our ambition, innovation, and technical expertise
Join Optical Networks division, where innovation meets scale in the AI-driven data center era. With the recent acquisition of Infinera, we’ve united two industry leaders to create an optical networking powerhouse—combining cutting-edge technology with proven leadership to redefine the future of connectivity.

As a Systems Design Engineer at Nokia, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our leading DWDM transmission systems. You will develop and maintain innovative product architectures and detailed features for high-capacity transponders, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ITU-T G.709 and G.798. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, providing technical guidance and support to R&D, product management, and customer teams. Our fast-paced, dynamic work environment fosters creativity and innovation, allowing you to leverage the latest industry trends and your hands-on HDL design experience to tackle complex challenges. You’ll work directly with cutting-edge technology while contributing to a collaborative, multi-national team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of telecommunications. Join us in creating next-gen optical transport solutions that empower connectivity around the globe.

  • Design and innovate product architectures for packet-optical telecommunications focused on performance, cost, and capacity.
  • Analyze market requirements and industry standards (e.g., ITU-T G.709, ITU-T G.798) to define detailed product features.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, offering technical support to R&D, product management, and customer teams.
  • Coordinate development of features and concepts, aligning with operational requirements and use cases.
  • Apply hands-on HW design experience to create solutions for high data rates (beyond 100Gbit/s).
  • Stay abreast of telecommunications trends, ensuring designs meet industry benchmarks and customer expectations.
  • Lead and mentor team members in a multidisciplinary, multi-site global environment.
  • Communicate architectural concepts and project progress effectively to stakeholders and partners.
  • Good technical understanding of optical network equipment, such as transport and switching network elements for OTN, DWDM and Ethernet transport; optical interfaces for DWDM systems; OTN and SDH protection technologies and synchronization in telecommunication networks.
  • BSc/MSc/PhD degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in hardware development for telecommunication systems
  • In-depth knowledge of ITU-T G.709 and Ethernet standards (IEEE 802.3)
  • Hands-on experience in hardware design for DWDM and related telecommunications products
