We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Systems Engineer to join our proactive and innovative team.
These roles will provide holistic lifecycle Systems Engineering support to replenish activities within the Skynet SDW programme. As a Junior, Senior & Principal Systems Engineer, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager (PEM).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BEng or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications).

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Systems Engineering
  • Requirements and Use Case analysis
  • Concept assessment and design trade studies
  • System architecture design and functional modelling
  • Performance assessment and systems behavior analysis
  • Verification, Validation and Certification
  • Test Cases, test scripts, Capture of test evidence
  • Model based engineering techniques, including MBSE
  • Experience of working on a comms programme
  • Proven experience in Holistic Life Cycle Management with balanced competencies across the SE Discipline
  • Experience of a range of delivery methods (waterfall, lean, agile, DevOps, etc.)
  • Experience of Systems architecture
  • Knowledge of UK MoD KiD practices and ways of working
  • Practitioner in Determining and Managing Stakeholder Requirements, Life Cycle Tailoring, Verification, Validation and Transition to Operation.
  • Conversant with accreditation standards for bringing into service telecommunications systems including bespoke and COTS software applications.
  • A good understanding of cross domain and cross boundary requirements and interface.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • SKYNET Experience
  • Ability to interpret application layer protocol specifications.
  • Familiarisation with Model Based Systems Engineering (EA Sparx).
  • Familiarisation with DOORS Requirements Management software.
  • Familiarisation with Product Lifecycle Management software

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in the Communication Industry.
  • Experience in both hardware and software engineering lifecycles.
  • Knowledge or experience of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Knowledge or background in one or more of the following areas:
  • Military or Commercial Satcom
  • TCP/IP systems and technologies
  • Military grade communication networks.
  • VOIP networks
  • SD-WAN Technologies
  • JSP604, Secure by design methodologies.
  • ITIL Service Management
Responsibilities
  • Provision of SE expertise in the support of Replenish activities within the Skynet SDW Programme.
  • Delivery of tailored systems engineering activities in accordance with the Top-Level Engineering Management Plan (EMP) and ITEA Strategy.
  • Own all SE artifacts for your assigned work packages, including development of engineering plans in conjunction with the technical lead for your work packages.
  • Leading work packages from requirements capture to delivery in accordance with Babcock processes.
  • Managing and working with cross-functional and transversal Subject Matter Experts to plan and execute project delivery.
  • Requirement extraction, assessment, management, justification and decomposition.
  • Managing interfaces and trade-offs between systems, sub systems, functions and requirements.
  • Applying best placed SE practice and systems thinking to develop solutions tailored to meet requirements.
  • Creating and presenting technical engineering documents and supporting reviews.
  • Identifying and communicating Technical Risk, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies and Opportunities (RAIDO) for assigned work packages linked to the Programme Level RAIDO.
  • Developing estimates of engineering activity, duration and resource requirement
  • Management of workload for yourself and others to ensure on time delivery.
