POSITION SUMMARY:

Position Title: Systems Engineer - Fulltime Onsite Washington DC- Hybrid

JOB SUMMARY:

The Systems Engineer’s role is to ensure stability, integrity, and efficient operation by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Systems Engineer has specialized expertise in VMware products and a strong background in Microsoft environments with hands-on experience with VMware ESXi, vCenter, and NSX, as well as a deep understanding of Windows Servers and operating systems. In this role, you will provide Tier 2 and 3 support for the various components of a customer virtual private cloud environment, collaborating closely with clients to address complex technical challenges. The Systems Engineer will also mentor and provide guidance to the Systems Engineer staff.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • VMware Expertise: Demonstrable experience with current versions of VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vROPs; knowledge of NSX-T is advantageous.
    · Software-Defined Datacenter (SDDC): In-depth understanding of VMware’s SDDC solutions, particularly for virtual infrastructure and networking.
    · Microsoft Windows Server and OS Proficiency: Skilled in the installation and management of Windows Server and desktop operating systems in enterprise environments.
    · Networking Knowledge: Familiarity with networking infrastructure components to support cloud-based and on-premises systems.
    · Problem-Solving Skills: Proven analytical and advanced problem-solving skills to develop efficient solutions, especially in client-facing scenarios.
    · Client Interaction: Ability to work directly with clients to resolve issues, customize solutions, and improve customer satisfaction.
    · Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
    · Must be able to obtain a clearance or have a current DOJ Public Trust clearance.

DESIRED SKILLS:

· VMware Cloud Foundations familiarity.
· Proficiency in developing run books and technical documentation (written samples may be requested).
· Strong aptitude for adhering to a troubleshooting methodology to solve problems in complex virtualized environments. Ability to articulate the methodology and approach and how that has contributed to previous successful efforts.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative-related field or equivalent combination of education and additional specialized relevant work experience required.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in Information Technology, with a minimum of three years of specialized experience in virtualized infrastructure.
Certification(s), Licenses: One or more active certifications listed required:
VMware VCP- DC, DTM or NSX, Cisco CCNA, MCSE, Security +, AWS Certified Architect, Splunk Certified, Palo Alto Certified.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· VMware Administration: Perform advanced configuration and support of VMware products, including ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, vROps, and NSX. Knowledge of VMware’s Cloud Foundation (VCF) and automationis a plus.
· Microsoft Environment Management: Install, configure, and provide support for Microsoft Windows Servers and OS environments including Active Directory Services, Group Policy management, DNS, and DHCP.
· Networking Infrastructure: Work with networking components to support and enhance customer infrastructure.
· Tier 2/3 Support: Deliver senior-level technical support for system components, particularly within the customer virtual private cloud environment, diagnosing and resolving complex issues.
· Configuration Management: Document and submit requests for configuration changes using the ticketing system. Participate in configuration review boards, both as an evaluator and as a change initiator, as circumstances require. Conduct change impact analyses, develop test plans, and prepare backout plans. Perform approved changes in accordance with submitted plans and document changes via redlines to the original plans if adapted during the implementation.
· System Development and Testing: Develop, test, install, configure, and troubleshoot both computer hardware and software, ensuring robust system functionality.
· Product Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis related to hardware and software design, development, implementation and integration to support customer requirements.
· Documentation and Training: Create test strategies, system run books, and training documents; provide system training to end-users and field technical personnel (Tier 1 and 2).
· Performance and Stress Testing: Execute stress and performance tests on various system resources to optimize performance and reliability.
· Application Support: Support the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of customer applications.
· Incident Response: Participate in incident response training, drills, and simulations. Support incident response investigations by providing subject matter expertise and responding to inquiries for artifacts and digital evidence in a timely manner. Assist with interpreting event logs for the supported systems.
