Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.   Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.  We currently have an opportunity for a LAND 4140 BMS Systems Engineer , based in either Melbourne or ACT to work on Army Battle Management System (BMS) and Critical Command & Control (C2) projects.  What You’ll Do  This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:  * Perform complex systems and software engineering activities across a diverse Defence technology environment, including systems‑of‑systems, networking, radio and electro‑mechanical domains. * Develop and integrate engineering artefacts supporting a Beyond‑Line‑Of‑Sight Friendly Force Tracking (BLOS FFT) capability, including personal devices and data integration into command and control ecosystems. * Contribute to system architecture, integration specifications, engineering plans, reports and other technical documentation to support Government approvals. * Identify, manage and resolve systems engineering risks, issues and constraints, advising engineering and project management on appropriate courses of action. * Support the Engineering Manager, Project Managers and Project Director across engineering, project and commercial activities, while exercising assigned engineering and regulatory authorities   What You’ll Bring   * Degree in Engineering recognised under the Washington Accord * More than 8 years’ engineering experience, including 5+ years in systems engineering within Defence or a comparable acquisition environment. * Demonstrated experience with BLOS FFT or similar capabilities, including personal location devices and integration into centralised C2 systems. * Strong experience across Systems Engineering, DevSecOps, and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including production of high‑quality engineering documentation.   Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum NV1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth.
