Position Overview Chartis Federal is seeking a Systems Engineer with hands-on experience in Motorola Land Mobile Radio (LMR) infrastructure and subscriber unit programming to support our federal customer. This position plays a critical role in sustaining and modernizing mission-essential communications systems that enable frontline personnel to perform their missions safely and effectively. The ideal candidate will bring engineering expertise in wireless communications systems, network integration, and lifecycle sustainment of Motorola LMR solutions across diverse operational environments. Duties and Responsibilities Design, configure, install, and maintain Motorola LMR infrastructure—including repeaters, base stations, site controllers, consoles, and associated networking components—to support mission-critical wireless communications. Engineer, configure, and support Motorola subscriber units (portable, mobile, and control station radios), including development and management of code plugs and operation across different LMR configurations. Perform system upgrades, patching, and firmware management for Motorola LMR infrastructure and subscriber units, ensuring compliance with security and operational standards. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to RF coverage, interoperability, encryption, subscriber programming, and overall system availability in collaboration with field engineers. Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on Motorola LMR sites, equipment, and subscriber radios deployed across multiple facilities and operational areas. Collaborate with program managers, engineers, and technicians to ensure operational readiness of communication networks in support of critical operations. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including system configuration baselines, test plans, coverage reports, and code plug inventories, for program deliverables. Provide training, guidance, and technical support to end users and field staff on both infrastructure and subscriber radios. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience). Must have active DOD Secret clearance or DHS Tier 2 BI with up-to-date investigation. 10+ years of experience with Motorola LMR infrastructure (e.g., ASTRO 25, MCC7500 consoles, GTR8000 repeaters, etc.). Must demonstrate expert-level knowledge in specialized systems engineering areas (e.g., enterprise IT infrastructure, LMR/communications systems). Experience integrating LMR with IP-based networks and dispatch systems. Familiarity with encryption standards (AES/DES), ISSI/CSSI interfaces, and P25 systems. Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently or within a team. Preferred Motorola R56 grounding and installation certification. Previous federal, state, or public safety communications project experience. Experience with tools such as Motorola Radio Management (RM), GenWatch, and/or coverage analysis software. Why Join Chartis Federal?
