The Electrical Systems Engineering team plays a key role in keeping up the standards by designing and developing custom electrical instruments that enable calibration and testing of the diverse technologies inside Apple products, including silicon, high-speed interconnect, cameras and power systems. Our instruments are used across engineering and factory environments to ensure every Apple product meets the highest standards of quality and performance. We are seeking an Integration and applications engineering lead who combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with practical experience in hardware test, embedded systems, and software automation. You will play a critical role in bridging the gap between instrument design and real-world application, ensuring our instruments are optimized for precision, performance, and scalability. DESCRIPTION Lead the definition, design/ development and implementation of instrumentation systems which carry out calibration & performance validation of Apple products Act as the technical bridge between instrument design teams and product engineering teams Define, debug, validate, and optimize instrument applications for test and calibration workflows across Apple’s technologies Develop and maintain software interfaces, scripts, and reference designs to enable rapid deployment of instruments across labs and factories Collaborate with FPGA, firmware, and software engineers to validate system-level functionality and ensure performance to spec Lead root-cause analysis and debugging efforts across hardware, firmware, and software layers Support test and calibration of Apple products using custom instruments, ensuring measurement accuracy, repeatability, and system reliability Perform failure mode root cause analysis and resolution, debugging from the system level down to the component level Work closely with Apple EE, SI, firmware, operations, and logistics teams. Frequent interactions with CM/vendors and develop SOPs, debug instructions, and documentation as part of R&R MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 5+ years of experience in SW development or hardware/instrumentation integration, or embedded systems development preferred Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field Proven foundation in Electrical Engineering fundamentals (system architecture, signal integrity, noise, power, etc.) Working knowledge of FPGA-based systems (Altera preferred), including experience developing or integrating FPGA IP for data acquisition or control applications Proficiency with signal integrity and high-speed protocols such as USB, DisplayPort, PCIe, or Thunderbolt Exposure to embedded software engineering, including device bring-up, firmware interaction, or low-level communication protocols (SPI, I²C, UART, GPIO) Proficiency in scripting and coding, e.g., Python, C/C++ or similar, for test automation, data analysis, and API integration Hands-on experience with system-level HW and SW debugging, and proficiency in the lab equipment used for debugging. e.g., multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc Experience in hardware test and calibration of electrical systems, sensors, or other technologies in consumer electronics Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design, develop and debug complex electrical, firmware, and software interactions Ability to travel (domestic and international) up to 20% PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with hardware design, validation, and manufacturing teams
