Responsibilities
  • System Integration & Architecture
  • Design and Implementation: Architect and implement system solutions for healthcare EPM/EHR environments, ensuring components such as Mirth Connect, HL7 interfaces, Rosetta, and SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) are seamlessly integrated and adhere to data-exchange standards.
  • Interoperability: Facilitate interoperability between disparate systems by enforcing HL7 compliance and industry best practices; manage data transformation and routing logic.
  • Data Flow Management: Oversee end-to-end data exchange between applications, middleware, and databases. Implement efficient, secure transfer mechanisms-particularly leveraging Mirth for message integration-and troubleshoot data routing or latency issues.
  • Database Management
  • Design & Optimization: Develop, maintain, and optimize database schemas to support performance and scalability. Utilize SolarWinds DPA to monitor query performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement indexing or architectural improvements.
  • Data Security: Enforce robust security controls to protect patient PHI. Regularly review and update access permissions, encryption protocols, and audit logs.
  • Backup & Recovery: Establish and maintain comprehensive backup/recovery procedures for production and non-production databases. Conduct periodic restore testing and document recovery processes.
  • Application Development & Support
  • Healthcare System Expertise: Lead development, upgrades, conversions, and interface projects for NextGen (preferred), Epic, Centricity, Allscripts, or similar EHR/PM platforms. Manage background process scheduling, error monitoring, and testing to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Coding & Reporting: Write T-SQL stored procedures, functions, and views for custom reporting. Leverage SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to create operational reports and dashboards, as well as using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL operations for different scenarios.
  • Interface Configuration: Configure and maintain Mirth Connect channels-build transformation mappings, troubleshoot routing errors, and optimize message throughput. Implement and validate HL7 interfaces for lab systems, billing, and clinical workflows. Configure Rosetta integration platform to facilitate data exchange with external vendors.
  • Monitoring, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Proactive Monitoring: Use SolarWinds DPA and application-level monitoring tools to identify trends or anomalies. Analyze performance metrics and collaborate with stakeholders to remediate identified issues.
  • Planned & Unplanned Maintenance: Perform off-hours and weekend maintenance windows for system upgrades, patches, and unplanned triage. Maintain and update runbooks for standard operating procedures and incident response.
  • Issue Resolution: Anticipate potential system conflicts and act proactively-debug application code, database queries, or interface logic. Apply root-cause analysis techniques to recurring errors and implement long-term fixes.
  • Collaboration & Documentation
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with software developers, network/IT administrators, QA testers, and clinical stakeholders to gather requirements, validate solutions, and refine workflows.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including system configurations, integration mappings, database schemas, and user guides. Develop training materials and conduct knowledge-transfer sessions for IT staff and end users.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current on emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes (e.g., HL7 standards, HIPAA security updates). Propose and implement enhancements to streamline processes, improve reliability, and reduce total cost of ownership.
