Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a Systems Manager in Canberra to work on Joint projects. What You’ll Do This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including: Develop, maintain, and govern key sustainment artefacts — including the Functional Area Management Plan, PdS updates, configuration control, and transition documentation. Manage system performance, certification, and accreditation — overseeing engineering certification, security accreditation, and reporting against PdS KPIs. Oversee acquisition, refresh, and obsolescence activities — ensuring capability continuity and alignment with CAF16 governance requirements. Provide strategic advice and stakeholder support — advising the CAF16 IPdM and AWC staff, contributing to governance forums, and supporting program/project events. Lead risk, financial, and contract management activities — identifying and managing risks, handling budgets and invoices, and ensuring effective contract oversight. What You’ll Bring Knowledge of the aviation environment, including aeronautical information, charts, instrument flight procedures, and related publications. Experience managing medium–large enterprise networks and leading associated support teams. Project management capability, supporting structured delivery and coordination. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Understanding of modern networking, computers, and operating systems, enabling effective technical decision‑making and support. Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
