Project Scope The selected engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing a small-scale enterprise simulation environment that supports: Active Directory domain services Virtualized lab infrastructure Cybersecurity attack/defense simulations Network segmentation and VLAN configuration SIEM/log monitoring environment AI container hosting (light ML workloads) Secure student workstation integration Key Responsibilities Infrastructure Deployment Install and configure Dell PowerEdge server Deploy virtualization platform (Proxmox, VMware, or equivalent) Configure RAID and storage architecture Configure secure administrative access Network Configuration Configure Dell managed switch (VLAN segmentation required) Implement network topology appropriate for cyber simulation Configure firewall rules (hardware or software-based) Document full network design Server & Lab Environment Deploy and configure Windows Server (Active Directory) Create domain structure and student user roles Build and snapshot virtual machine templates Configure red-team / blue-team environments Deploy open-source SIEM (e.g., Security Onion) Ensure lab reset capability between cohorts Documentation & Handoff Provide full topology diagram Provide VM inventory documentation Provide admin credential inventory Create reset and maintenance SOP Provide 30-day post-deployment support window Required Qualifications 5+ years experience in Systems or Network Engineering Hands-on experience with: Windows Server & Active Directory Virtualization (VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V) VLAN configuration Managed switches Firewall configuration Linux server administration Experience building lab or simulation environments preferred Strong documentation discipline Ability to work on-site in Queens, NY during build phase Preferred Experience Experience in cybersecurity environments or SOC deployments Experience configuring Security Onion or similar SIEM Familiarity with CompTIA Network+ / Security+ domains Experience in educational or training environments Basic understanding of GPU workstation deployment (AI node) Deliverables (Non-Negotiable) Before project completion, engineer must deliver: Functional lab environment Documented network topology Documented server configuration VM templates and snapshot system Written instructor operations guide Backup and recovery plan Project Timeline Estimated 20-40 hours total 2-3 week completion window Flexible scheduling but on-site presence required for hardware configuration.
