REQUIRED ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas: students with special needs; assessment/testing theory and practice (Level B); strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and successful experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities as defined by the Ministry of Education.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate information related to the learner’s diverse abilities/disabilities and the implication for the student’s educational plan
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs, in partnership with the classroom teacher(s), parents, student and district personnel
  • Excellence in modelling, demonstrating, co-teaching, and/or training teachers or educational assistants in inclusive practices and targeted strategies to support CBIEPs
  • Demonstrated effective experience with and knowledge of evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of exceptionalities and learning disabilities to plan Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
  • Demonstrated understanding of Inclusion, Universal Design for learning framework, and response to Intervention and Instruction processes
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with classroom teacher, family and team members to assure that the goals of the CIEPs are effectively implemented and evaluated
  • Commitment to working with staff and parents in an open, accepting manner that promotes a strong and caring professional learning community focused on student learning and needs
  • Demonstrated success as a Case Manager participating as an integral member of the School Based Team who works well with school, district, and inter-agency team members
  • Demonstrated success working with and coordinating programs and schedules for a team of Educational Assistants
  • Demonstrated excellence in coordinating, facilitating, chairing integrated school based and/or case management meetings for students with exceptionalities
  • Demonstrated experience in effective transition planning from elementary to middle school
  • Demonstrated ability and proven experience in teaching social skill groups and functional life skills
  • Demonstrated ability and proven experience in using technology to support student needs particularly those supported by SET-BC
  • Demonstrated excellence in the areas of interpersonal skills, communication, organization, student and program management, and collaboration
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of formative and summative assessments to guide targeted instruction and support that includes data collection and analysis of data to provide response plan
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing Professional Development
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to Indigenizing curriculum using the First Peoples Principles of Learning.
