Description The Tam Golf Course Starter is a part-time seasonal position at Niles Park District's Tam O’Shanter Golf Course. Pay range is $15-$17/hour, no benefits, with a starting wage of $15/hour. Typical morning shift is 5:30 AM to 1:00 pm. Typical afternoon shift is 1 pm to close (could be as late as 9:15 pm during peak). Essential Functions: 1. The primary duty and function of the starter is to guarantee accurate payment has been received for all green fees and rental fees due. The customers' registrations are verified by the starter checking each receipt. The starter will keep the smaller copy of each ticket, confirming the number of players in each group, assigned tee-time, and any cart rentals that have been purchased. 2. Starters are responsible for issuing and continuously monitoring any damage to rental pull or gas carts. It is essential that patron information is recorded on the appropriate spreadsheet for every cart rental in case damage occurs or items are left behind. 3. Starters need to be familiar with all rules and regulations governing Niles Park District and the Tam O’Shanter Golf Course. The starter must inform patrons of all such rules and regulations in order to protect the course & maintain orderly behavior by golfers. 4. Starters shall conform to all personnel policies of the Niles Park District and the Tam Golf Course. Failure to comply with such policies may result in disciplinary action, as described in the Niles Park District Personnel Policy Manual. 5. All irregularities in policy or procedure concerning receipts or starting times should be documented and discussed with Golf Course Management at the earliest opportunity. 6. Starters must be able to monitor the flow of the course and first tee to keep the operation running on schedule. They should communicate with the cashier if there is need for a “Starter Time” to help get course back on schedule when running behind. 7. Attend staff meetings as required by the Niles Park District or Golf Operations Manager. 8. Monitor, report, and correct safety hazards for both patrons and employees. Follow all Niles Park District safety procedures. 9. Remain aware of and make a conscious effort to provide quality customer service according to departmental standards. 10.Confiscate liquor & coolers. No outside alcoholic drinks are allowed on the course. 11.Document accidents/incidents, emergencies, safety conditions or irregularities. 12. Fill in as Ranger when needed. Marginal Functions: Assist at special events. Additional clubhouse responsibilities may include but are not limited to: cleaning the interior of the clubhouse; cleaning of interior and exterior window surfaces; cleaning men's and women's washrooms; cleaning and washing riding carts; cleaning cart garage and pull carts; and being available for any other clubhouse maintenance or upkeep. Psychological Considerations: Starters must work closely with their co-workers and the general public. Starters are responsible for safety on the course and should continually be on the lookout for potentially hazardous conditions or situations. Starters may be exposed to hazardous, stressful and psychologically demanding situations. Starters must make correct and safe judgments concerning the management of play on the course. Physiological Considerations: Starters must be able to be on their feet for long periods of time. Starters must be able to perform physical duties such as cleaning the starters' booth and the first tee area. Some minor lifting up to 30 pounds will be required at times for necessary course maintenance or event set-up. Environmental Considerations: Starters are exposed to all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold temperatures, rain, and possibly snow and ice. Starters may be exposed to the hazardous materials and chemicals which are used on the course. Cognitive Considerations: Worker must be able to follow oral and written directions. Worker must have troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Worker must be able to verbally communicate effectively with co-workers and patrons. Worker may be required to respond quickly to emergency situations. Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age, aware of the rules and etiquette of golf, and possess a valid Class "D" driver's license and valid CPR-AED card (or complete park district training).
