Description The Taper Operator is responsible for setting up and operating equipment used in the fabrication of tapered composite components. This includes preparing mandrels, operating filament winding machines, monitoring resin application, and ensuring proper curing processes. The operator must follow detailed work instructions, ensure accurate record-keeping, and maintain a clean and safe work environment. Requirements Duties & Responsibilities Prepare mandrels and molds for composite lay-up, ensuring cleanliness and proper release agent application. Set up and operate filament winding machines to fabricate tapered composite parts according to specifications. Monitor resin infusion processes, ensuring correct resin flow and curing parameters are maintained. Inspect finished parts for defects, ensuring they meet quality standards and specifications. Maintain accurate production records, including material usage and process parameters. Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any issues to the team lead, supervisor, or manager. Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean work area. Follow detailed instructions from shop routers, JIBs, and work instructions. Perform additional duties as assigned. Knowledge & Experience 2+ years of experience in composite manufacturing or a related field preferred. Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints. Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments and quality inspection techniques. Skills & Abilities Good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. Frequently required to reach and use hands and arms continuously. Hours/Shifts: This is a 3rd Shift position. 1st Shift: Monday through Friday 7:00am – 3:00pm EST 2nd Shift: Monday through Friday 3:00pm – 11:00pm EST 3rd Shift: Sunday through Friday 11:00pm – 7:00am EST Hours and shifts may vary depending on needs of the department.
