Tax Analyst   Summary/Overview   Responsible for the preparation and filing of fuel, sales, and transportation tax returns in accordance with federal and state regulations. This role supports tax compliance through account reconciliations, tax research, and resolution of tax notices. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The Tax Analyst works closely with departments including Accounting, Billing, Logistics, and Sales to ensure tax reporting accuracy and process improvement.   Responsibilities and Duties: * Prepare fuel, sales, and transportation tax, property tax returns,  and supporting schedules  * Reconcile general ledger accounts related to tax activity  * Prepare and post month-end journal entries * Communicate with state taxing authorities to resolve tax assessments and inquiries  * Submit amended returns and refund requests when necessary  * Meet monthly deadlines for federal and state tax filings  * Identify and recommend improvements to return preparation procedures Required Education and Experience: * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred or equivalent professional experience  * 4-8 years of progressive experience in corporate tax or public accounting   * Research changes in tax rates and relevant tax laws  * Experience working with GAAP and accounting software systems  * Strong Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency  Preferred Education and Experience: * Experience in fuel or petroleum transportation tax  * Ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy under tight deadlines  * Strong organizational and analytical skills  * Ability to analyze client needs and provide appropriate solutions  * Flexibility to work extended hours to meet external deadlines if needed
