Description Under general direction of the Tax Commissioner, the Tax Clerk plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs the City's income tax collections and compliance. Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work maintaining a variety of financial records, reports and documents, preparing required or requested fiscal reports, receiving, processing and receipting incoming monies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES : · Provide services and information to the public in a variety of areas such as income taxes, fee collection, and tax statement clarification. . Maintaining and inputting commercial and residential property questionnaires. · Calculate and record income taxes due for current, delinquent and prepaid taxes; calculate penalties and/or penalties and interest on past due and delinquent taxes, subject to any pending adjustments. · Assist taxpayers to satisfy their inquiries, either in-person, by telephone, or by web response. · Prepares a wide variety of accounting, fiscal, statistical, and similar reports. · Accurately update and maintain the master database address list to ensure information remains current and organized. · Balance and reconcile daily transactions. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Collection of utility bills in the absence of Treasury Clerk. · Assist with processing and sorting mail. · Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS · High school diploma or GED · A minimum of one to two years of experience working in a related field. · An equivalent combination of education and experience that encompasses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS · Post-high school education in accounting or public administration is a plus. · Experience in a financial or administrative environment with municipal money management. · Experience with de-escalating tense situations (phone and in-person). · Excel skills (data entry, use of formulas, etc.).
