Tax Controversy Associate (1–3 Years) | Washington, D.C. Our AmLaw 100 client is adding a junior associate to its Tax Controversy and Litigation group in Washington, D.C. This is a lean, high-judgment practice handling disputes that raise real statutory, procedural, and policy questions, not commodity work. This group is known for its work at the intersection of federal tax, litigation strategy, and regulatory enforcement, with matters that routinely involve the IRS, DOJ, and federal courts. The Role • Represent clients in federal tax controversies and litigation • Draft briefs, memoranda, and submissions in matters before the IRS, DOJ, and federal courts • Work closely with senior lawyers on disputes involving complex domestic and cross-border tax issues • Tackle issues that are often novel, technical, and unsettled The Profile • 1–3 years of tax controversy experience • Strong legal writing and analytical skills are non-negotiable • Prior experience with the IRS or DOJ, or a federal trial or appellate clerkship, is highly valued • Exposure to international tax or transfer pricing concepts is a plus • Top academic credentials expected Why This Role • Early responsibility in a nationally recognized tax litigation practice • Direct training from lawyers who regularly handle high-stakes federal tax disputes • Sophisticated matters that go well beyond routine examinations • Platform and compensation consistent with top-tier AmLaw firms, including a current salary range of $225,000–$310,000 plus bonus eligibility Next Steps This search is being handled confidentially.
