Description
Description At Forgent Power, we bring together over a century of industry expertise with the energy and innovation of a modern startup. We design and manufacture advanced power and electrical systems that keep industries, communities, and people connected. Our legacy of craftsmanship and reliability meets a culture driven by curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We’re building the future of power—with people who are passionate about their craft and inspired to make a difference. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES Forgent Power is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Director of Tax to lead and build the internal tax function of a newly public manufacturing company. This mission-critical role will oversee the company’s overall tax strategy, compliance, and reporting across a complex corporate structure. As we prepare for and navigate life as a public company, the Director of Tax will serve as a strategic partner and integral authority on all tax matters — translating complex tax code into actionable insights, ensuring compliance, and driving value through proactive tax planning. This is not a compliance-only role. We’re looking for an individual who sees tax as a strategic asset — someone who can ask the right questions, own the numbers, and build a tax strategy that supports growth and protects the business. Tax Strategy and Planning Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies aligned with business objectives. Administer the company’s Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) and other public company tax obligations. Participate in strategic discussions around transactions, M&A, and structuring. Tax Compliance and Reporting Own and manage all aspects of tax compliance including federal, state, local, and international filings. Lead quarterly and annual tax provision processes in accordance with ASC 740 and SEC disclosure requirements. Implement systems and processes to support accurate and timely tax reporting. Audit & Risk Management Manage tax audits and disputes with government agencies. Ensure audit readiness and maintain full ownership of the company’s tax position. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with finance, legal, operations, and external advisors to integrate tax considerations into business decisions. Translate complex tax concepts into clear, actionable guidance for leadership and cross-functional teams. Indirect & International Tax Oversee and optimize indirect taxes (sales/use, property tax), international tax considerations, and asset ownership structures. Leadership & Team Building Build and lead the internal tax function from the ground up — this role is the tax department. Mentor and develop future tax professionals as the team grows. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required. CPA of MST strongly preferred; Master’s in Taxation or Business Administration is a plus. 7-10+ years of broad tax experience, including corporate and partnership tax. Big 4 experience and exposure to public company environments is highly desirable. Proven experience owning full-service tax functions and working with complex corporate structures. Deep knowledge of federal, state, and international tax regulations. Strong understanding of tax implications manufacturing, including inventory, COGS and revenue recognition. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficiency with tax reporting tools.
