POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Tax Manager will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns; working with external tax firms regarding the preparation or review of income tax returns; preparation of quarterly REIT tests; and research & analysis of tax issues. The Tax Manager will lead senior tax associate team members and facilitate training and growth for upcoming team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A qualified candidate is typically expected to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of tax compliance and transactional experience (public accounting or industry), with focus on partnerships and REITs.
  • Technical knowledge of federal tax laws related to C-corporations, partnerships, REITs, and international tax.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with ability to interpret legal documents and tax regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to convey complex tax topics to cross-functional teams.
  • High level of discretion with confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, Word); experience with Fixed Asset Software and ONESOURCE.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation.
  • CPA license.
  • Knowledge of legal entity structures and business classifications.

WHAT YOU’LL GET IN RETURN:

The pay range for this role is $124,304 - $156,780 - $183,136.
Offers near the high end are uncommon but may be considered for candidates with exceptional experience and skills and are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. You may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and an annual discretionary stock award, to be discussed during the interview process. An annual pay rate and total compensation package is generally determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, education, skills, performance, and abilities, as well as internal equity, company performance, and alignment with market data.

Responsibilities

Tax Compliance

  • Manage and review federal, international and state income tax return workpapers for partnerships, REITs, and TRS corporations.
  • Manage external advisor relationships; provide tax schedules, address questions, and ensure compliance deadlines are met.
  • Review tax returns prepared by external firms.
  • Oversee federal, international and state compliance tracking.
  • Manage earnings and profits (E&P) calculations for 1099-DIV filings.
  • Assist in developing tax policies, procedures, and department structure.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation for tax-related activities.
  • Maintain proper entity classification for non-U.S. legal entities under U.S. tax laws.

Tax Planning

  • Research and document tax implications of joint venture transactions, private fund structures and outbound foreign investments.
  • Contribute to tax planning discussions and transactional analysis.
  • Identify and assess potential tax leakage in existing structures; propose restructuring ideas.

REIT Testing

  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual REIT compliance tests.
  • Assess and document REIT income and asset test impact of transactions
  • Maintain supporting documentation for REIT testing.
