Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Cultivate strong relationships with business stakeholders to fully understand and align with their objectives. Lead cross-functional initiatives that integrate tax considerations into strategic business decisions.
  • Tax Advisory, Audit & Appeals, Litigation support, and Compliance: Provide expert guidance on Canadian indirect tax matters, including the interpretation of GST/HST, QST, PST legislation, case law, and government policies. Proactively manage tax compliance and identify opportunities for tax optimization.
  • Project Management: Lead high-impact projects, including tax planning, legislative impact assessments, and system/process improvements. Balance multiple tasks and work closely with Tax and non-Tax team members, adapting to shifting priorities to support evolving business and taxation needs.
  • Government Relations: Engage with government authorities to stay ahead of tax regulations and policy changes. Incorporate this knowledge into TELUS’s tax planning and compliance strategies.
  • Innovation & Continuous Process Improvement: Address challenges related to acquisitions, new product introductions, business process changes, systems implementations, audits, and appeals. Drive initiatives to enhance tax efficiency, compliance, and overall business performance.
  • Mentorship & Development: Regardless of reporting structure the successful candidate will mentor and develop junior Tax team members, fostering a culture of learning and continuous professional growth.
